The Master of Animal Science aims to:
- promote advanced critical reflection on professional practice in the animal industries;
- provide opportunity to continue life long learning in keeping with the University's mission statement;
- meet the educational needs of professionals working in the ever evolving animal industries;
- promote the acquisition of advanced analytical, problem solving skills and conceptual insights that will enable the candidate to assume positions of leadership within the animal industries;
- encourage excellence in scholarship and/or focused research within the candidate's discipline area.

Admission criteria
The course is restricted to students who have completed an approved undergraduate degree or equivalent experience as determined by the Course co-ordinator. Equivalent experience is defined as direct practical experience of at least 2 years in duration relating to the field within the animal industry which the candidate wishes to specialise in.
Graduation requirements*
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete a thesis which is equivalent to 96 points, including the satisfactory completion of a 16 or 32 point research project/dissertation.

Course structure
The Master course consists of a compulsory research project either 16 or 32 points, and a set of restricted electives. Students may graduate with either a Postgraduate Certificate or Postgraduate Diploma exit point only course at the completion of 32 or 64 points respectively.

Enrolment pattern
The enrolment pattern is flexible and will be developed in consultation with the Course Co-ordinator. The 2 stipulations for the enrolment pattern are:
- Subjects with pre-requisites will be attempted only after completing satisfactorily the pre-requisite subjects.
- The research component may require enrolment in ASC516 or ASC532 in two consecutive sessions. It could, however be completed within a single session by enrolling in ASC517 or ASC533.
