The aim of the course is to enhance graduates skills and knowledge in their chosen business or professional specialisations, or in a variety of electives subjects, while also developing core management skills.

The course aims to serve the needs of students who wish to further their understanding of the fundamentals of management as well as their knowledge of, and skills and capacities for effectively undertaking roles in particular professional or occupational areas. The goal is to produce graduates with strong core knowledge and analytical, problem solving and interpersonal skills relevant to managing in any professional or occupational area as well as the technical and professional skills and knowledge required for senior positions in a variety of specialist areas.

Normal course duration

Extended version

Part-time 2.5 years (8 sessions)

Students may take out an extended version of the MBus. Where students choose this option they will be transferred into the 128 point program and will be able to take out an additional specialisation or study four more elective subjects.

Where a fourth specialisation is chosen that shares common subjects with already completed specialisations, the student will be required to undertake substitute subjects with the approval of the MBus Course Manager to make up a total of sixteen specialisation subjects.

Upon completion of the extended MBus, students graduate with all specialisations in the nomenclature of the award on the testamur, e.g. Master of Business (name of specialisation 1/name of specialisation2/name of specialisation3/specialisation4).

Admission criteria

Study Group

Credit

Students may receive credit for up to 50% of the course for studies completed at postgraduate or equivalent level.

Students with a completed Australian Bachelor level qualification or equivalent in business may be eligible for up to four subjects credit into the Master of Business.

Graduation requirements*

Graduate Certificate in Business
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 32 points.

Graduate Diploma of Business
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.

Master of Business
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 96 points.

Master of Business (Extended version)
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 128 points.

Course structure

Graduate Certificate in Business

The course consists of four 500 level postgraduate subjects chosen from the pool of approved Master of Business subjects. Students may enter directly into the Graduate Certificate or exit with that award from the Master of Business or Graduate Diploma.

Graduate Diploma of Business

The course consists of eight 500 level postgraduate subjects chosen from the pool of approved Master of Business subjects. Students may enter directly into the Graduate Diploma or exit with that award from the Master of Business.

Master of Business

The course consists of twelve 500 level postgraduate subjects chosen from the pool of approved Master of Business subjects. Students may elect to tailor their degree to specific discipline areas by completing one or more of the approved specialisations, or students may elect to study any 12 subjects from the pool of approved Master of Business subjects.

Subjects that are counted towards one specialisation may not be counted again towards another. Students must contact the Course Manager to receive approval for an alternate subject.

Extended version of the Master of Business

Internal Mode, Albury-Wodonga Campus:

Students studying via internal mode on the Albury-Wodonga Campus will be able to complete 12 elective subjects or may transfer into the extended version and complete 16 subjects.

Study Group:

The course consists of 12 elective subjects. Students may elect to tailor their degree to specific discipline areas by completing one or more of the approved specialisations, or students may elect to study any 12 500 level postgraduate subjects from the pool of approved Master of Business subjects.

Subjects that are counted towards one specialisation may not be counted again towards another. Students must contact the Course Manager to receive approval for an alternate subject.

Students are able to transfer to the extended, 16 subject version of the MBus and upon successful completion, students graduate with all specialisations in the nomenclature of the award on the testamur, e.g. Master of Business (name of specialisation 1/name of specialisation2/name of specialisation3/specialisation4).

Enrolment pattern

Because of the flexibility of the course requirements, there is no prescribed enrolment pattern. Students may choose the order in which they undertake subjects, depending upon the availability of subjects and the meeting of pre-requisites, particularly in the students' chosen specialisation.
