DOH121 Foundations of Dental Practice 1A (12)

Enrolment restrictions: Restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Dental Science course.
In this subject, students will be introduced to aspects of clinical dentistry through theory, observational clinical exposure and simulation laboratory exercises.The subject also provides core foundation study in chemistry and physical sciences. The importance of a preventive philosophy in the practice of dentistry will be emphasised and students will gain instruction in basic concepts or oral disease risk assessment, tooth morphology and the pathophysiology of caries and periodontal disease. Instruction in basic dental laboratory skills and techniques will also be an integral part of this unit. Instruction in foundation chemistry and physical sciences will include current theories of the nature of atoms, molecules and bonding.
