This subject explores the use of literature in education and its role in terms of student learning outcomes, including literacy, long term reading motivation and lifelong learning. There is an emphasis on some of the key competencies of information literacy such as higher order thinking and problem solving. Topics include literary learning theory and models; literary genres and modes; literary theories of popular culture, postmodernism and visual literacy; social and cultural issues in literature in education; and literature and teacher librarianship.
