The aim of the course is to produce competent instrumental music educators in the areas of pedagogy, curriculum, assessment and evaluation, in a range of professional learning environments.

Admission criteria
Applicants require:
- Minimum Grade 4 Musicianship and Theory or Musicianship or Music Craft
- Minimum Grade 6 Performance in Chosen Instrument
In the event of not having these grades, then an interview and/or audition will take place.
Credit
Associate Degree in Music Education
Credit can be awarded for the equivalent of three subjects (24 subject points) in the Professional Studies strand:
Grade 6 Theory and Musicianship - achieved through a recognised and accredited music examination board. Indicative benchmark organisations include:
- Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB)
- Trinity Guildhall Examinations (Australia)
- Associate Board of the Royal School's of Music
- Australian Guild of Music and Speech
- Australian and New Zealand Cultural Arts (ANZCA)
This credit will be represented as 8 subject points via the credit code MUS10C AMEB Grade 6 Theory and Musicianship.
Grade 8 in Practical instrument - achieved through a recognised and accredited music examination board. Indicative benchmark organisations include:
- Australian Music Examinations Board (AMEB)
- Trinity Guildhall Examinations (Australia)
- Associate Board of the Royal School's of Music
- Australian Guild of Music and Speech
- Australian and New Zealand Cultural Arts (ANZCA)
This credit will be represented as 16 subject points via credit code MUS02C AMEB Grade 8 Practical Instrument.
For students who have successfully completed a Licentiate Diploma in Music (LMusA) through a recognised and accredited music examination board, 24 subject points credit will be awarded as -
MUS02C AMEB Grade 8 Practical Instrument - 16 subject points
MUS10C AMEB Grade 6 Theory and Musicianship - 8 subject points

Graduation requirements*
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete:
- complete 128 points (16 standard subjects or their equivalent);
- complete at least 88 points (11 of the 16 standard subjects) in education-based or Education-related discipline areas approved by the Course Coordinator; and,
- complete at least 64 points (8 of the 16 standard subjects) by taking subjects taught by CSU.
*The number of subjects and specific subject choices are described in the course structure and enrolment pattern for the course.

Enrolment pattern
Upon successful completion of AMEB Grade 8 in a Practical Instrument credit of 16 subject points will be awarded (represented as MUS02C).
Upon successful completion of AMEB Grade 6 Theory and Musicianship credit of 8 subject points will be awarded (represented as MUS10C). (This credit does not apply to the University Certificate in General Studies exit point).
