The general aim of the Bachelor of Business is to provide the formal educational requirements for students in order that they may function competently in professional, specialist and managerial positions in private or public practice, commerce, industry and the public sector.

Admission criteria

University Certificate in Business

Subject to availability of places, the University will admit any applicant it believes can undertake the proposed course with reasonable prospect of success. In determining an applicant's prospect for success, the University will consider previous studies and/or other attainments and experience.

Bachelor of Business (with specialisations)

Standard CSU and UAC admission requirements for undergraduate courses apply.

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete eight of the available ten core / foundation subjects (64 points)

Bachelor of Business (with specialisations)

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 192 points (24 subjects) at pass level or better. These subjects are a combination of core subjects, specialisation subjects and electives. For students completing the Insurance specialisation, credit must have been awarded for all the specialisation subjects, which are undertaken through the ANZIIF, and the elective subjects must include a joint study in Finance.

Course structure

The course consists of three core subjects, seven foundation subjects, nine specialisation subjects and five electives (except in Accounting and Insurance specialisations where there are three core subjects, five foundation subjects, ten specialisation subjects and six electives).

Students who are enrolled in a double degree of which this course is a component, may substitute three (3) subjects in the core, foundation or specialisation with subjects from the non-business degree. Subjects may only be substituted on approval by the course manager.

Study at CSU Study Centres

Students may also undertake the following Bachelor of Business specialisations through a CSU Study centre in Sydney or Melbourne. Students are advised to check the core, foundation subjects and the relevant specialisation’s course structure and enrolment pattern for specific requirements.

Joint Studies

A joint study is a prescribed set of subjects taken from a discipline other than the chosen specialisation. Students are then able to use the title of the joint study in conjunction with the specialisation (e.g. Bachelor of Business (Accounting/Finance).

For a Joint Study either from within the Faculty of Business or consisting of subjects from another Faculty, students must take an established sequence or set of five subjects. Established sequences are determined by the Faculty Board. Students must ensure that they take the necessary pre-requisites.

If a Joint Study is chosen from those offered within the Faculty of Business, it must be in an area other than that of the specialisation chosen. No more than two subjects can be counted towards a Joint Study if they have already been undertaken as part of either the core or a specialisation. A student cannot claim more than one Joint Study.

University Certificate in Business

The enrolment pattern for students will be dependent on their choice of subjects.

Exit Point Awards

While this course does not specifically articulate with other courses, students who wish to terminate their study at an earlier stage may be eligible to receive one of two lower level awards, the Associate Degree in Business Studies, University Certificate in Business or the University Certificate in Business Studies.

Exit with Associate Degree in Business Studies

Students will be eligible to graduate with the award Associate Degree in Business Studies (AssocDegBusStud) if they have completed 128 points in the Bachelor of Business, of which at least 88 points must be business or business related subjects, thus meeting the requirements of the Associate Degree in Business Studies.

Exit with University Certificate

Students will be eligible to graduate with the award University Certificate in Business (UnivCertBus) if they have completed eight of the available ten core / foundation subjects (64 points) in the Bachelor of Business or the University Certificate in Business Studies (UnivCertBusStud) if they have completed 64 points, of which at least 48 points must be business or business related subjects, thus meeting the requirements of the University Certificate.

Students are not entitled to credit, as the University does not allow credit in University Certificate courses

Professional recognition

Accounting Specialisation

CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia jointly accredit the course.

Finance Specialisation

Re-accreditiation from ASIC is being finalised.

Human Resource Management specialisation

Reaccreditation from the Australian Human Resources Institute is being sought.
