The Bachelor Pass course aims to prepare dietitians competent in:

Graduates of this course will be required to meet the National Competency Standards for Entry Level Dietitians, as specified by the professional accrediting body, the Dietitians Association of Australia. Accordingly, the course is required to implement teaching and learning practices designed to encourage lifelong learning in the practice of nutrition and dietetics.

The Bachelor Honours course is designed to prepare graduates who will be critical consumers of research, with a knowledge of a number of key research paradigms and the ability to design, conduct, and write up a manageable research project. Through a process of mentoring, the course aims to encourage and prepare graduates to undertake a research career upon graduation.

Admission criteria

Assumed knowledge will be 2 unit Chemistry and 2 unit Mathematics. Application for admission based on the UAI will be assessed to ensure the subjects taken relate appropriately to the course. Non-recent school leavers are required to demonstrate suitability for and interest in nutrition and dietetics, as well as their potential to complete the course successfully. Applicants will be assessed on evidence of knowledge of chemistry and mathematics, evidence of experience in a nutrition and dietetic setting, demonstrated knowledge of the field of nutrition and dietetics and evidence of successful post-secondary study.

Those students entering the course with inadequate background in chemistry and mathematics are strongly recommended to undertake the chemistry and mathematics subjects offered in the University's Studylink supplementary program prior to commencing study in the course. In order to be eligible to transfer into the Honours stream at the beginning of year 3, students will have to obtain grades of credit or above in at least 50% of first and second level subjects in the pass degree.

Graduation requirements*

To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 256 points. Including a minimum of a pass level in the Honours Dissertation/Project.

Professional recognition

In order to be employed as Dietitians within the health system, graduates require to be members of the Dietitians Association of Australia. The course currently has full accreditation.
