Bachelor of Veterinary Biology/Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours)
BVetBiol/BVSc(Hons)
Double degree Pass or Double degree Integrated Honours
The Bachelor of Veterinary Biology Bachelor of Veterinary Science aims to:
- provide veterinary graduates who are highly competent in the livestock, companion and performance animal and associated industries;
- maximise the benefits of the School's location to facilitate living and working in rural Australia after graduation;
- maximise the benefits of the synergy between the agricultural and veterinary sciences to facilitate the ability to serve the livestock industries;
- be internationally recognised for educational and research excellence in the field of health, welfare and productivity of farmed livestock;
- produce graduates with highly developed practical skills;
- produce adaptable graduates with highly developed interpersonal, problem solving and decision making skills and a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development;
- provide a highly supportive environment for undergraduate veterinarians;
- establish an environment of mutual respect between staff, students and the veterinary profession;
- provide leadership in the protection of human health;
- enhance national biosecurity and surveillance of animal diseases through undergraduate training, outreach programs and research.
In addition to the aims of the pass degree the Bachelor of Veterinary Biology Bachelor of Veterinary Science (Honours) course is designed to prepare graduates who will be critical consumers of research, with a knowledge of a number of key research paradigms and the ability to design, conduct, and write up a manageable research project. Through a process of mentoring, the course aims to encourage and prepare graduates to undertake a research career upon graduation.
Students may also elect to exit this course after three years with the exit point only award the Bachelor of Veterinary Biology BVetBiol

Admission criteria
Admission into the pass degree at CSU is a four step process.
- Application through UAC
- Completion of a questionnaire available at www.csu.edu.au/forms/prospective or by phoning the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences (02) 6933 4479. The questionnaire is to be received by CSU on or before the closing date for UAC.
- An interview in late November early December.
- A UAI of at least 90. The cut-off may vary from year to year.
The questionnaire and interview seek to establish the selection criteria. The selection criteria are:
- High level academic capability.
- A demonstrated interest in, and commitment to, rural Australia, veterinary science and animal production.
- An understanding of the unique ethical and practical issues that confront veterinarians concerned with rural practice and production animals.
- The capacity to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Admission into the honours degree
In order to be eligible to transfer into the Honours stream at the beginning of year 5 of the double degree program, students will have to obtain grades of credit or above in at least 50% of the subjects in Year 2, 3 and 4 years of the combined degree program.
