Admission criteria
Associate Degree in Vocational Education and Training
Students must have a recognised vocational qualification at trade certificate (AQF Certificate III) level or above, or equivalent, and a minimum of three years relevant experience.
Bachelor of Vocational Education and Training
Students must have a recognised vocational qualification at AQF Certificate III or above, or equivalent, and a minimum of three years relevant experience. A Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training (BSZ98) or a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA4014 ) does not count as a vocational qualification for entry purposes.
Students who hold a Diploma of Teaching (Technical) or a three year teaching diploma outside the VET sector are also eligible to apply.
Articulation
The Associate Degree in Vocational Education and Training articulates with the Bachelor of Vocational Education and Training and credit is awarded in the Bachelor degree for subjects completed in the Associate Degree.
Credit
Upon admission, all students are granted a credit package of 64 points for prior qualifications (represented as VET08C Entry Level Vocational Credit - 64 pts).
Students who apply for Admission and who hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104) will be granted a credit package for 24 credit points (represented as VET03C Certificate IV TAA40104 Credit - 24 subject points - FCR). The credit will be changed from Forward Credit to Transfer Credit once the student has successfully completed EBB321 Reflective Practice in VET.
Students who progress to the Bachelor of VET will be given credit for the eight subjects that they have successfully completed in their Associate Degree.
NOTE: Students who receive the VET08C (64 subject points) and the VET03C (24 subject points credit) will have a total credit of 88 credit points which exceeds the credit regulations for an undergraduate award. However as part of the 2005 Course Review this additional credit was approved by the Faculty and Academic Senate to achieve consistency across the three VET programs and so that Associate Degree students are not disadvantaged.
Credit arrangements therefore include:
- If a student is in the process of completing the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment then proof of enrolment in this course needs to be provided at the point of Application for Admission.
- Students who do not fully complete the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment will have the VET03C Certificate IV TAA04 Credit - 24 subject points Forward Credit rescinded and will be required to complete the full Without TAA40104 course program.
- Students who do not possess the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment before entering, will be required to undertake the complete CSU VET course, which has the TAA40104 embedded within it. At the end of the course (provided the relevant subjects are successfully completed) students can apply to CSU Training, the University's Registered Training Organisation, for the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to be issued. This credential attracts a fee and further inquiries can be made direct to CSU Training on 02 69332773 or by email to csutraining@csu.edu.au
- Students who possess the BSZ98 Certificate IV in Assessment & Workplace Training only, have the option of completing the whole CSU VET course, or upgrading to the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (either through CSU Training or any RTO that offers it) and then enter the Associate Degree in VET with the TAA40104 and apply for the 24 subject points credit (as indicated above).
- Credit for a partially completed (with no intention to fully complete) TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment will not be granted.
- Credit for a TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment will not be granted following admission to a VET program. Due to the nature of the specific course structures it is not possible for this credit to be retrospective and must therefore be applied for at the point of admission.
For students who commenced their course with CSU before Autumn Session 2006 then the following arrangements apply:
- The TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment was not addressed in the previous course structures.
- If students held the BSZ98 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training upon entry they may now consider upgrading to the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.
- If students upgrade to the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment while studying a VET program under the pre-2006 course structure no credit will be granted towards the Associate Degree in VET.
Formal arrangements for the award of the Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAA40104) have been made with CSU Training.
Graduation requirements*
To graduate, students must satisfactorily complete 192 points for the Bachelor degree and 128 points for the Associate Degree.
The number of subjects students must complete during enrolment may vary dependent upon their prior qualification, for which a credit package is awarded upon admission to the course.
*The number of subjects and specific subject choices are described in the course structure and enrolment pattern for the course.
