For the generic course and each of the four specialisations, students meeting the standard entry criteria receive a 16 point credit package upon admission. For this entry level, the actual FTE = 1.25
For students entering the Nuclear Medicine specialisation and the Medical Radiation Science generic course with zero entry credit, the actual FTE = 1.5 years.
Postgraduate Diploma of (with specialisations)
Full-time 1.0 years (2.0 sessions)
The actual course duration for postgraduate diploma exit, varies depending on entry credit level.
Students meeting standard entry criteria receive a 16 point credit package upon admission. For this entry level into the CT, MRI, RII specialisations and MRS generic course , the actual FTE duration for the Postgrad. Dip. = 0.75.
For zero entry credit into the MRS specialisation, the actual FTE duration for the Postgrad. Dip. = 1.0.
Admission criteria
Master of Medical Radiation Science (with specialisations)
A. Requirements for admission with 16 point entry credit:
16 point entry credit is applicable to the generic Master of Medical Radiation Science and to each of the course specialisations.
An applicant may enter the program with a 16 point entry credit package if he/she attained or completed the following:
-
a Bachelor of Medical Radiation Science (or equivalent), in either
-
Medical Imaging (for entry into all specialisations except Nuclear Medicine);
or -
Nuclear Medicine (for entry into the Nuclear Medicine specialisation or generic Master of Medical Radiation Science course);
or - Radiotherapy (for entry into the generic Master of Medical Radiation Science course only).

Medical Imaging (for entry into all specialisations except Nuclear Medicine);
- the 12-month structural internship set by the Australian Institute of Radiography (AIR) or the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine (ANZSNM) and known as the professional development year (PDY), or equivalent;
- the Statement of Accreditation (issued by the AIR or the ANZSNM) or equivalent; and
- at least two (2) years of full time equivalent clinical experience in the area of study specialisation, in addition to the PDY. (Note that overseas applicants who may not have formally completed a PDY, will need to possess a minimum of three (3) years of relevant full time equivalent clinical experience).
The above set of criteria ensures that an applicant will enter the program with basic knowledge and skills approximately equivalent to a four-year undergraduate program. Based on these criteria, a 16 point entry credit package is awarded.
B. Requirements for admission with zero entry credit:
Admission into the program with zero entry credit is only possible for the generic Master of Medical Radiation Science course and the Nuclear Medicine specialisation.
Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements will be allowed entry into the generic Master of Medical Radiation Science course and the Nuclear Medicine specialisation, but will receive zero entry credit:

possession of a Medical Radiation Science Bachelors degree or equivalent in

Medical Imaging (for entry into the generic Master fo Medical Radiation Science course),

Nuclear Medicine (for entry into the Nuclear Medicine specialisation or the generic Master of Medical Radiation Science course),

Upon admission, students are awarded an entry credit package of either 16 points (equivalent to two subjects), or zero (0) points. The credit awarded will strictly depend on previous academic qualifications as well as on relevant clinical experience (refer to Field 12, Part B).

Course structure
The specialisations of this 96 point Masters course, namely, Computerised Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Radiographic Image Interpretation and Nuclear Medicine and the generic Master of Medical Radiation Science course, are not all identically structured. Each specialisation, consists of some compulsory subjects, along with different groups of restricted electives (where a subject has to be chosen from a restricted selection). The generic Master of Medical Radiation Science course however, consists of groups of restricted electives with no individual compulsory subjects.
All students who meet the prescribed standard entry criteria (see Field 2.6, Part A and Field 12, Part B), are awarded a 16 point credit package on admission, in recognition of previous study and experience. Once enrolled, these students have to complete 80 subject points to obtain the Masters degree, or 48 subject points to exit with a Postgraduate Diploma.
For students who do not meet the prescribed standard entry criteria referred to above, but who fulfil other appropriate criteria (see Field 2.6, Part A and Field 12, Part B), a Masters degree can still be obtained in the Nuclear Medicine specialisation and the generic Medical Radiation Science course (only). This group of students however, will be given zero entry credit, and will have to complete 96 subject points to gain the Masters degree, or 64 points for the Postgraduate Diploma, in these two programs. Hence these students would do all subjects that students meeting standard entry criteria would do, plus an additional two 8 point elective subjects.
There are two groups from which elective subjects may be chosen. These are defined as "Group A" and "Group B", as follows. The session(s) of offering (Autumn/Spring) of each subject is indicated in brackets as shown:

The Postgraduate Diploma course is an exit point only course in the Masters degree. This applies to the generic Master of Medical Radiation Science course and to all the course specialisations except Nuclear Medicine. Hence, the following are articulated sets:

- Master of Medical Radiation Science (Computerised Tomography) (incorporating the Postgraduate Diploma of Computerised Tomography),
