Abstract: This subject develops students' knowledge of exercise and its relationship to health. Physiological responses to acute and chronic exercise will be examined in healthy populations and in population groups with special needs. In addition this subject introduces students to the assessment of exercise capacity and to exercise prescription in healthy populations and in population groups with special needs.
This subject builds on an understanding of the fundamentals of physiology. It is assumed that students enrolled in this subject will have knowledge of the physiology of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, and skeletal muscles. Additionally, an understanding of basic chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry is required.
