Admission criteria

Master of Applied Science

Applicants must hold:

Applicants for the Master degree must demonstrate an above average ability in their previous studies (credit average or better) or during their employment or other professional activities (to the satisfaction of the committee of Course Co-ordinators). Candidates with a relevant three year degree will normally be required to enrol initially in the Graduate Diploma.

Graduate Diploma of Applied Science

Applicants must:

Graduate Certificate in Applied Science

Applicants to the Graduate Certificate would normally hold a three year degree in any discipline or have extensive relevant industry experience.

Credit

Master of Applied Science

Upon admission to the Master degree, students will be awarded 64 points of credit for the fourth year of study completed as part of the prior qualifications required for admission.

Graduate Diploma of Applied Science

Students admitted to the Graduate Diploma with a relevant Graduate Certificate will receive credit for these subjects.

Graduate Certificate in Applied Science

No special arrangements apply

Articulation

The Master, the Graduate Diploma and the Graduate Certificate make up an articulated set of courses and credit is given in each higher level course for the subjects completed in the lower.

Graduation requirement

Master of Applied Science

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 128 points.

Graduate Diploma of Applied Science

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.

Graduate Certificate in Applied Science

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 32 points.

Course structure

Graduate Certificate in Applied Science:

All subjects comprising 32 points must be drawn from level 2, 3, 4 or 5 subjects offered by the Faculty of Science. The total number of points completed at levels 2 or 3 may not exceed 16. Under circumstances determined by the Course Coordinator or the Dean of the Faculty of Science, a minority of subjects relevant to the Candidate’s studies, may be drawn from level 2, 3, 4, or 5 subjects offered by other Faculties.

Graduate Diploma of Applied Science:

All subjects comprising 64 points must be drawn from level 2, 3, 4 or 5 subjects offered by the Faculty of Science. The total number of points completed at levels 2 or 3 may not exceed 32. In addition to the 64 points awarded upon admission, students complete electives equivalent to 64 points chosen from postgraduate subjects offered by the Faculty of Science, with a maximum of 16 points of these to be completed at level 4 and the remainder at level 5. Students may choose level 5 Special Topic subjects or may, with the permission of the Course Coordinator or Dean, choose subjects from other Faculties

Enrolment pattern

Because of the flexibility of the course requirements, there is no prescribed enrolment pattern. Students may choose the order in which they undertake subjects, depending upon the availability of subjects and the meeting of pre-requisites, particularly in the students' chosen areas of study.
