Admission criteria
Master of Arts (Journalism)
Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree in any discipline, a Graduate Certificate in Journalism, a Graduate Diploma of Journalism, or equivalents. Applicants who do not have a university degree will be considered on the basis of documented evidence of five years full-time employment.
Graduate Certificate in Journalism
Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree in a discipline other than journalism, or equivalent professional experience. Applicants who do not have a university degree will be considered on the basis of documented evidence of two years full-time study, training or employment.
Credit
Master of Arts (Journalism)
Applicants who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Journalism will receive 32 points of credit in the Master of Arts (Journalism). They will be required to complete an additional 64 credit points from subjects available in the postgraduate journalism articulated set, or equivalent. Applicants who have completed the Graduate Diploma of Journalism will receive 64 points of credit in the Master of Arts (Journalism). They will be required to complete an additional 32 credit points from subjects available in the postgraduate journalism articulated set, or equivalent.
Graduate Certificate in Journalism
No special arrangements apply.
Articulation
The Master, the Graduate Diploma [exit point only] and the Graduate Certificate make up an articulated set of courses and credit is given in each higher level course for the subjects completed in the lower.

Master of Arts (Journalism)
To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 96 points.
Graduate Diploma of Journalism [exit point only]
To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.
Graduate Certificate in Journalism
To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 32 points.
Course structure
The Graduate Certificate consists of 32 credit points chosen from:
- five subjects designed to provide the necessary background and context for news and public affairs reporting in the contemporary communication landscape
The exit point only Graduate Diploma consists of 64 credit points comprising:
- the five subjects offered at Graduate Certificate level, plus
- one specialist reporting subject that prepares students for journalistic roles in a range of media.
The Master degree (by project) consists of 96 credit points from:
- the five subjects offered at Graduate Certificate level, plus
- two specialist reporting subjects that prepares students for journalistic roles in a range of media, and
- a journalism project subject comprising analysis and production of news stories and features either for print, broadcast or online media examining a significant social, cultural, ethical, historical or political trend in Australia or overseas.

- one specialist reporting subject that prepares students for journalistic roles in a range of media, and
- a dissertation subject that provides a theoretical framework for the exploration of a significant social, cultural, ethical, historical or political trend in a journalistic context.
