Admission criteria
Master of Health Science
To be admitted to this courses,applicants should hold:

a 3 year Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline
or - a CSU Graduate Certificate/Postgraduate Certificate (or equivalent from another University).
Credit
Master of Health Science
Students with better qualifications than the minimum would be eligible for credit for the following components of the course, as follows:
- for a 4 year Bachelor's degree - 32 points of coursework subjects at Level 4;
- for a 3 year Bachelor's degree plus relevant Postgraduate/ Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma qualification - 32 points of coursework subjects at Level 4 or above, including the Research Methods and/or Critical Readings subjects (if already completed);
- for a 3 year Bachelor's degree plus other relevant postgraduate professional qualifications or advanced practice (such as: a formally structured Professional Development Year; a minimum of two years postgraduate experience in an area of clinical specialisation; at least five years experience in an industry related to this field of study plus evidence of continuing professional education and development) - up to 32 points of coursework subjects.
No credit will be granted for the 32 point research component or the research proposal subject.
Articulation
The Master and the Postgraduate Diploma [exit point only] make up an articulated set of courses and credit is given in each higher level course for the subjects completed in the lower.

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 64 points.
Master of Health Science
To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 96 points.
Course structure
MASTER OF HEALTH SCIENCE
The Master of Health Science course of 96 points duration, consists of four components:
Restricted elective coursework subjects (48 points) chosen from a list maintained by the Course Co-ordinator.
The Course Co-ordinator may also approve restricted elective enrolment in other suitable postgraduate subjects (level 4 and above) offered by Charles Sturt University.

One Research subject HLT515 Health Science Research Portfolio (32 points)
This research component, leading to the production of a publishable work, will be an investigation that is driven by either the acquisition of new data or the analysis of existing data.
The investigation/research will be conducted under the direction of formally appointed supervisors. The Faculty of Science has the capacity to supervise Master's level students in all fields of research and all discipline areas covered by the Faculty. The Dean or delegated authority shall appoint an appropriately qualified and experienced supervisor and, if appropriate, a co-supervisor from the academic staff of the University. The Dean or delegated authority may also appoint a co-supervisor from outside the University (for example, from industry, the professions or another university or research establishment) if appropriate.
All students will be required to present their work in the form of a portfolio. Such a portfolio will include:
- a publishable article ready for submission to a refereed journal, together with the author's guidelines to the chosen journal and reasons for choosing this journal;
- a comprehensive review of the relevant literature, which includes a justification for the focal point of the investigation;
- application and approval documents from CSU and/or other institutional Ethics in Human Research Committees (if required), and/or if required from other CSU committees such as Radiation Safety, Biosafety and Animal Care & Ethics;
- formal research proposal.
- a summary overview, linking all aspects of the portfolio into a logical seamless document
In addition, such a portfolio will include any detailed methodology, results and analysis which supports the information presented in the publishable article.
POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA OF HEALTH SCIENCE (exit point only)
The Graduate Diploma of Health Science exit point only course of 64 points duration, consists of three components:
Restricted elective coursework subjects (48 points) chosen from the Faculty's suite of postgraduate subjects: same list of restricted elective subjects as for the Master's course structure. The Course Co-ordinator may also approve restricted elective enrolment in other suitable postgraduate subjects (level 4 and above) offered by Charles Sturt University.
