Abstract:
This subject considers the characteristics, problems, prospects and importance of small business in Australia. Factors affecting small business survival and development are examined, particularly in terms of the role the public accountant as a provider of small business management advisory services.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
* be able to describe and discuss the nature of the small business, including the economic roles, social significance, and unique characteristics, challenges and problems of small business
* be able to determine the life cycle stages of small businesses and develop accounting, finance and financial management strategies consistent with life cycle stages
* have the skills needed to design accounting systems for and manage the finances of small business enterprises
* have the expertise to provide an extensive range of relevant accounting and non-accounting management advisory to small business clients.
