Abstract:
The subject introduces the principles, concepts and techniques associated with undertaking research in accounting. The subject considers the way researchers identify and investigate issues, with emphasis on the provision of accounting information within organisations and to external parties. The subject investigates the philosophy of research and examines how to plan and organise a research project.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
* be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of the philosophical underpinnings of research in the social sciences
* be able to differentiate and describe the strengths and weaknesses of different approaches to conducting research
* be able to apply the techniques associated with quantitative and qualitative research methodologies
* be able to design, undertake and write up research projects in accounting.

* Philosophy of research * Research problems and literature reviews * Research traditions in accounting * Research proposals * Methods of qualitative research * Methods of quantitative research * Data analysis * Writing-up research
