CSU Discipline Area: Accounting (ACCOU)

Abstract:

This subject will identify the uses of accounting information for decision making by business managers and business stakeholders. It will draw on the technical expertise of graduates gained through completing the CPA subjects and build upon that expertise by exploring business decision-making contexts and the means by which accounting and financial information can be effectively used. The subject will focus on the analysis of financial statements and their use in making investment, lending and financial planning decisions.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

be able to critically evaluate the economics of a business, its competitive strategy and risk.
be able to critically evaluate the quality of accounting data, its strengths, limitations and potential for misrepresentation.
be able to apply the techniques of financial statement analysis.
be able to apply financial analysis to business decisions involving investment, financial distress prediction and equity valuation.
be able to conduct research into the financial performance and financial position of a listed company and report the results.
