Abstract:
In this subject students will design a piece of research, present their proposal for approval and carry that research through to completion. The research will be of relevance to Agricultural Business and Resource Management as well as to the students' long term development. The research will lead to presentation of a dissertation, preparation of a journal article and dissemination to appropriate sectors of Agricultural Business and Resource Management. Research projects will only be approved if they are adequately prepared.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
with appropriate research mentor guidance, be able to identify concerns - either sociological or scientific - of rural and remote Australia
be able to develop the identified concern into a major research question (= goal) and several sub-questions (= objectives)
be able to design and execute a study within a given timeframe that addresses the identified goal and questions, that uses appropriate and well-justified methods, and that meets any necessary research ethics committee stipulations (should any exist)
be able to justify the choice of research question based on a review of the relevant literature, and to defend the choice of methodology (quantitative or qualitative) and choice and size of sample
be able to interpret the findings meaningfully through analysis and synthesis
be able to write a quality dissertation on a research study to a standard considered publishable in an appropriate disciplinary journal and be able to communicate the research orally to a learned audience.
