Abstract:
This subject is an introduction to the livestock industries in Australia and their impact both internationally and domestically, revolving around the consumer and customer needs in regards to livestock production systems. Students will investigate all aspects of customer and consumer needs and the impact quality assurance has on the production chain and also determines product specifications for varying customers.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- Be able to accurately utilise the systems approach to identify simple interactions within an animal industry.
- Be able to describe a cross section of animal industries in relation to industry structure, economic contribution and sustainability (long & short term).
- Be able to undertake consumer research to determine consumer needs for particular products
- Be able to write relevant product specifications based on consumer research
- Be able to accurately describe quality assurance (QA) issues impacting on the production chain and evaluate possible strategies to manage QA issues
- Be able to identify the needs of the different customer requirements throughout the chain
- Be able to outline key biological processes in various production systems
- Be able to demonstrate how to assess the interrelationships between biological processes needed for day to day and long term management decisions
- Be able to analyse reports and demonstrate various production systems to suggest alternate management strategies.

-International, national & regional livestock industries -Livestock systems interactions -Trade issues, world trade implications -Quality Assurance Processes -Interview preparation, administration & analysis -Customer & consumer requirements -Sustainability issues -Management calendars -Biological processes in livestock systems
