CSU Discipline Area: Animal and Vet Science (ANVET)

Abstract:
This subject provides students with an opportunity to undertake a research project related to a discipline area selected by the student, in consultation with academic staff, towards their undergraduate Bachelor degree in the School of Animal & Veterinary Sciences. It is one of two, non-honours research subjects (ASC416, ASC432) within the School of Animal & Veterinary Science, Students will develop an increased knowledge in a nominated discipline, and develop research, verbal and written skills.
Equine Science students can chose to do this research project instead of the practicum components in the last year of their undergraduate equine degree, provided they meet the required GPA.
All students are required to have a GPA of at least 4.0 (pass average). In addition, enrolment in this subject is dependent on the availability of an appropriately funded project and approval by a project supervisor.

Enrolment restrictions:
Students must have a GPA of at least 4.0 (PASS average) to be eligible to undertake this Subject. Enrolment is also subject to the availability of an appropriate project and supervisor.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate a sound knowledge of the technical and theoretical aspects of the nominated topic area
- be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills relevant to conduct research
- be able to demonstrate an increased level of knowledge in the area of specialisation
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- This will be selected to meet the needs of the individual student and will vary depending on the nature of the research project undertaken. Topics must be approved by the Course Coordinator and/or the supervisor of the project.
- Research design appropriate to the research project being undertaken
- Scientific writing as appropriate for the presentation of a scientific research report.
- Review of the literature as appropriate for the writing of a scientific report
- Analysis of research data, as appropriate to the research project undertaken

The research project may incur substantial operating costs. Students must have formal arrangments in place to cover such costs before commencing the subject.
