Abstract:
This subject involves an in-depth examination of the the behaviour of horses in general and the implications of that behaviour to horse training and management. Various horse training systems and husbandry are evaluated in terms of their effectiveness and in respect to their effects on horse welfare and behaviour.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to describe the principles of effective horse training and education
- be able to evaluate the effectiveness of various horse training and education programs
- be able to identify welfare indicators for horses in training.
This subject is clearly differentiated from the paired subject, ASC248, in that the learning objectives and assessment clearly reflect the higher level offering appropriate to Master level learning.
