Abstract:
This subject aims to provide an introduction to basic histopathology through examination of the histologic changes associated with human disease. There will be a particular focus on solid human tumours to illustrate the range of morphologic changes associated with damaged or diseased tissue.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
be able to identify and describe the processes of cell injury, cell death and inflammation;
be able to identify and describe the processes associated with tissue repair, regeneration and fibrosis;
be able to describe the process of neoplasia;
be able to define the common terms used in oncology;
be able to outline the diagnosis, staging and clinical assessment of solid tumours;
be able to identify and describe the histological changes associated with common solid tumours; and
be able to identify pre-malignant and malignant cells using cytological methods.
