BMS350 Health and Chronic Disease (8)

CSU Discipline Area: Biomedical Science (BIMSC)

Duration: One sesssion

Abstract:

Students completing this subject will develop a broad understanding of chronic disease and its management. In this subject, common chronic diseases of the respiratory, cardiovascular, renal, nervous and endocrine systems will be examined in detail, and will incorporate key aspects of physiology and pathophysiology, disease progression, sociological issues, and intervention strategies from primary prevention to drug therapy and/or surgery. A case-based approach will be taken, covering prevalent chronic conditions affecting each of the body systems outlined above. This approach will provide students with skills in researching both pathophysiological and sociological issues, and understanding the key aspects of prevention and management of other chronic diseases. Students undertaking this subject will be assumed to have a strong knowledge of the normal anatomy and physiology of the human body, and of neuroscience.
