Abstract:

In this subject students will draw together the knowledge gained in their study of physiology, biochemistry, human genetics and cell biology, haematology and histopathology to examine the molecular basis of disease. This subject will take a multi-disciplinary approach to the topic and focus on the application of molecular techniques to assist in the diagnosis of disease in a medical laboratory setting and how these techniques can be used to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of emerging diseases.  This subject includes a practical component; distance students will complete this component at a 3 day residential school.
