Abstract:
This subject will contain an in depth study of the fields of bioinformatics and proteomics. A major part of the subject will deal with the relationship between genomes (or genomics) and cellular functions. Proteomics and bioinformatics are essential tools to analyse this relationship.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
* Understand genome sequencing and data analysis
* Appreciate the role of the Human genome project
* Understand the variations in genomes from different species
* Describe and understand DNA array technology and its difficulties
* Understand the difficulties in protein and RNA structure prediction
* Be able to do independent databank searches for specific DNA sequences
* Be able to analyse specific DNA sequences using current bioinformatics tools
