BUS412 Honours Research Methods (16)
CSU Discipline Area: Management (MANAG)
Duration: One session
Abstract:
This subject focuses on developing students' understanding of research methods that will be integral for the completion of their dissertation. The assignments you complete will broaden your understanding of alternative approaches to qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. The subject will be tailored according to the discipline and research interests of the students completing their honours degree. Potential topics covered will include the use of qualitative research methods, case method analysis, regression analysis and other multivariate techniques (eg factor analysis, cluster analysis, structural equation modelling, time series analysis), and measurement scale development. Students will also prepare their research proposal as part of this subject.

Enrolment restrictions:
Available only to students in Bachelor of Business (Honours).
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
. be able to design, conduct and analyse qualitative research projects using a variety of qualitative research techniques;
. be able to demonstrate understanding and implement multivariate analysis techniques appropriate for their specific research questions;
. be able to demonstrate appreciation of the strengths and weaknesses of the qualitative and/or quantitative research methodologies selected for their dissertation;
. have prepared and presented a research proposal for their honours dissertation that will be completed in their dissertation.
Note: The weight given to each of these objectives will depend on a student's individual research needs.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
. Research paradigms . Qualitative research methods . Case study analysis . Regression analysis (including time-series analysis, and limited dependent variable models) . Factor analysis . Cluster analysis . Structural equation modelling . Discriminant analysis . ANOVA . Analytical procedures for evaluating qualitative research data, including interpretation of underlying themes and software packages such as NVIVO. . Using SPSS statistical software in a variety of multivariate applications . Preparation of research proposals Note: the actual topics covered in this subject will be tailored according to the interests of students or student cohorts
