Abstract:
This subject introduces a range of live and mediated environments in which students are challenged to analyse, problem solve and create effective communication solutions. With an emphasis on considering audience and medium, it develops core presentation and digital competencies that prepare undergraduates for subsequent work in all B Communication 200 and 300 level subjects. Students are challenged to become creative, flexible producers of persuasive communication in a changing landscape.

Available to students in the Bachelor of Communication courses.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate an ability to develop and communicate original, appropriate ideas and practical execution by engaging creative problem solving while responding to open-ended communication projects
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of contemporary industry communication by crafting messages for traditional and emergent contexts.
- be able to demonstrate an ability to flexibly, articulately and persuasively communicate to different environments and audiences (both live and mediated)
- be able to demonstrate an ability to create and mediate effective digital assets for specific audiences and purposes (both screen and printed) that incorporate: conventions of composition and technical considerations; clarity and quality assurance and good design that enhances meaning and aids communication incorporating moving image, still image and audio
- be able to demonstrate professionalism in attitude, communication, organisation and dress
- be able to demonstrate an ability to integrate mediated and live communication to an advanced level
- be able to cooperatively interact with others, demonstrating effective interpersonal skills during task project management; conceptual development, presentation and written submission, utilising ethical and professional communication practice.

The subject will cover the following topics:
The subject will cover the following topics: - Live performance, audience & physical awareness - Professional presentation including dress, visual aids, persuasive language, physical awareness, talk structuring, peer group interaction and report writing - Audience analysis - Screen based performance and its uses for communication industries, incorporating reflection on presentation skills through watching back classroom exercises - Digital image mediation and website design including production of vodcasting, podcasting and analysis of social media - Interpersonal skills including: overcoming shyness, interviewing, eye contact and listening.
