Abstract:
The student will analyse and practice the craft of scriptwriting, for film, stage and television. This will include study and exercises in story construction, theme, characterisaton, dialogue and action.

Restricted to students in at least the 2nd year of study - enrolled in BA (Communication) courses.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate a critical and analytical understanding of the genres of film and televison.
- be able to understand the principles of story telling through the visual media with particular reference to the use of symbolism.
- be able to create powerful and engaging characters.
- be able to begin the process of constructing a script.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- writing for film, television and the stage. - assessment of scripts, plotting for the visual media; visualising a story, creation of characters. - writing a script, concept scenario, treatment and scene breakdown.
