Abstract:
The technical and artistic elements of performing for the television/film mediums will be covered through seminars, workshops, and video scene study. Television will be considered from the performer's point of view, the preparation for performance and the production process.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
Be able to examine the development of screen performance styles and produce an analysis in a shot by shot breakdown,
Be able to develop the skills of working in front of a camera to produce a creditable role performance,
Be able to examine the relationship between image, camera and audience at the level of technical production notes,
Be able to interpret the work within a video script at the level required of an actor or performer,
Be able to critically assess the quality of on-camera performance for authenticity and role performance.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
The development of on-screen performance. Styles within video and film. The role available to the television performer, from interview through to rehearsed scene study and videotaped, scripted camera performance. The development of the physical and vocal image in the presentation of a role. The constraints of the camera, lighting and sound; the technical requirements of the medium.
