COM312 Public Relations Internship (8)

Duration: One session
Abstract:
Students are expected to arrange an internship with a minimum of 140 hours and maintain a journal for the duration of the internship. They then provide a 400 word description of their experiences, a 600 word reflection on their internship and an 800 word critique if the experience matched their expectations.

As this is a final year subject for both courses, students must have completed all prior subjects before enrolling in this subject.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to prepare a professionally presented, explicit, ethical and logically structured report;
- be able to identify and understand key influencers in external communication; and
- be able to demonstrate knowledge of communication practices in common useage in work environments.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- preparation for the professional public relations environment.
- develop a portfolio of professional work completed and the observations on their effectiveness
- self assesment in a professional context
- establishing professional networks.
