This subject further explores public relations/communication strategies to manage issues in organisations. Emphasis is given to techniques for developing appropriate communication strategies, including media planning and crisis communication. Students' problem-solving faculties are developed further.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to examine in detail the theory and practice of communication processes in public relations/organisational management including issues management, public opinion processes and crisis communication.
- be able to examine the various stakeholders in the interactions between an organisation and its community and the importance of the concept of community and its role in the public relations planning process.
- be able to assess the increasing importance of communities both internal and external and the expectations now incumbent upon organisations to participate responsibly in community affairs.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
Schools of organisation theory. Dynamics of modern organisations in terms of politics and power. Organisational cultures. Social/community issues. Trends and strategies for employee participation, information sharing and team briefing. Impact of new technologies. Leadership. Implications of all the above topics for communication management. Communication education and training. Evaluating employee communication. Contexts of communication campaigns - political, health, literacy, environmental, informational etc. Development and planning of campaigns. Evaluation strategies. Case studies of Australian campaigns.
