Abstract:

This subject is intended for students who are enrolled in Graduate Certificate courses and have not studied at University level previously, but who have substantial relevant career and industry experience.
The subject is built around a core of generic study skills in information literacy, communication and writing skills, and skills in reasoning and critical thinking. The skills are demonstrated by addressing issues that pertain to the student's field of vocational study.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the ethos of University scholarship
Be able to effectively use a variety of methods of communication, including written, verbal and electronic
Be able to demonstrate information literacy skills, including the location, collection and evaluation of appropriate print and electronic resources, and research data
Reason critically and rigorously
Be able to write coherent, unified and well-focused essays and reports and produce accurate and concise summaries
Be able to apply the above skills in relation to their field of vocational interest

Values, ethics and the ethos of University scholarship Critical thinking and reasoning Information literacy Understanding and interpreting research data Writing and communication skills for University study
