Abstract:

This subject is designed to provide students with the opportunity to participate in the provision of clinical care with a strong emphasis on diagnosis and treatment planning. There will be a special focus on pain control and administering local anaesthetics. The clinical component of the subject will have a focus on periodontic, basic endodontic and simple restorative treatments as well as the provision of removable partial dentures.

Enrolment restrictions:

Restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Dental Science course.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

-be able to demonstrate continuing familiarity and competence in a clinical dental setting;
-be able to demonstrate familiarity and basic competence in diagnosis and treatment planning for clinical dentistry;
-be able to demonstrate continuing development of skills in the management of patients with periodontal disease;
-be able to demonstrate developing knowledge and skills relevant to the provision of simple safe local anaesthesia;
-be able to demonstrate clinical skills relevant to the provision of simple dental restorations;
-be able to demonstrate clinical skills required for the provision of relief of pain and simple endodontic treatment;
-be able to demonstrate clinical skills relevant to the provision of removable partial dentures
