Abstract:
The aim of this subject is to provide underpinning skills and knowledge to enable the student to evaluate and critically apply the principles of inclusive teaching and learning into their own professional practice. It also discusses the social and economic imperatives which shape adult and vocational education and the strong orientation to social justice and equity which is embedded in Vocational Education and Training policy. It looks at the responsibility of those who work within the adult and vocational education field to meet the needs of its students and industry groups. An opportunity is provided for students to reflect on their learning in the area of adult and vocational education and training, including the extent to which they have developed the CSU graduate qualities.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to apply the principles and the practices of critical reflection to evaluate their everyday practice as a VET practitioner
- be able to use Training Packages (and other curricular structures) effectively to design, implement and evaluate specific programs which meet the qualification rules and the training needs of different groups of students
- be able to design, implement and evaluate specific programs which can be used for professional development purposes
- be able to develop a professional portfolio which documents learning from their study of adult and vocational education and training and provides a template for further professional development in the workplace
- be able to articulate their progress towards the CSU Graduate Attributes whilst studying for their degree/diploma
- be able to articulate their role as a teacher/trainer in terms of the principles of professional ethics, sensitivity to Indigenous and other cultures, and sustainability
