Abstract:
This subject develops the students’ understanding of their role as a manager of the learning setting and the importance of creating a motivating learning environment. This involves recognising the impact of the teacher and the importance of relationships within the learning setting. This subject addresses learning management issues and develops critical thinking around the theory and practice of the management of different adult and vocational learning contexts.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- recognise and understand the relevance of a wide variety of theoretical models and approaches to the management of learners and the learning environment, and reflect on their application;
- understand key policy documents and resources that assist teachers to create effective adult and vocational learning environments;
- apply theory and practice to group and individual learning management situations; and
- apply a variety of effective teaching and learning strategies in the management of different adult and vocational learning contexts.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- THEORETICAL PERSPECTIVES OF LEARNING MANAGEMENT
- Social, physical, emotional and developmental theories and characteristics relating to adult and vocation education setting
- Approaches to learning management and discipline taking into account cultural, social, ethnic and religious diversity of students
- LEARNING MANAGEMENT POLICIES CONSIDERING APPROPRIATE LEVELS OF CULTURAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Examining learning management policy and legislation
- Proactive and reactive approaches to managing adult learners
- Practical strategies for managing diverse learners
- INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS
- Goal setting with students, questioning and listening
- Instructional strategies for effective teaching in difficult settings/situations
- Identify and address bullying
- EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING STRATEGIES
- Develop effective strategies for the inclusion of Indigenous students in the educational life of classrooms and schools
- Develop effective strategies for teaching in a range of learning areas and settings
