Abstract:
This Subject will advance students’ capacities to critically examine a selected educational issue from an international perspective. It will enable students to identify international practices which can contribute to strengthening the response to the selected educational issue within their school or educational and training workplace. A period of intensive literature and research review will enable students to discern underlying philosophical assumptions and applications of theory to practice which stem from differing cultural, social, economic and political contexts. Students will engage in an international experience and E-Seminar opportunities to reflect and draw conclusions leading to an improvement to current position taken in their professional setting regarding the selected issue.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- demonstrate increased knowledge of international perspective(s) and their effect(s) on educational issues;
- appreciate the need for educational leaders to understand educational issues from local and global perspectives;
- understand how differing cultural, social, economic and political circumstances can impact addressing educational issues;
- recognise the influence of underlying assumptions and philosophical issues underpinning to educational issues; and,
- demonstrate increased capacity to utilise experience gained from international contexts to their professional practice.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- a critical analysis of international literature, research and practice concerning a selected educational issue;
- a field-based, clinical experience beyond the student’s locale (either on-site or virtual) where, using a comparative analytic framework, findings from the critical analysis will be confirmed or amended; and,
- a presentation and submission of a summative commentary whereby the student draws conclusions and implications for current practice within her/his locale.
