Abstract:

The aim of this subject is to understand the principles by which exercise and human movement affect human physiology and the influence that human physiology has on exercise and movement capacity. Practical work in measuring and evaluating physiological capacities is undertaken.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

Syllabus:

The subject will cover the following topics:

- Cardiorespiratory considerations;
- Energy transfer and bioenergetics;
- Exercise and endocrine system;
- Ergology;
- Nutrition and exercise;
- Neuromuscular function;
- Ageing and gender differences;
- Environmental considerations.

Residential School

This subject contains a compulsory 5 day residential school.

The Residential School to be scheduled at end of session (during June-July Residential School period).

Each student will be required for one (1) University week (5 days), which will include 1 x 2hr laboratory classes on each day for each student.

Laboratory sessions to include:

  1. anaerobic testing;
  2. aerobic maximal and sub-maximal fitness testing;
  3. Pulmonary and Cardiovascular Function testing;
  4. Skeletal muscle function and testing; and
  5. exercise in the heat.
