Abstract:
In this subject students will enhance their understanding of current emergency operations management and specifically what actions could be taken during the impact and post-impact phases of any emergency. This subject analyses how an actual emergency/disaster was managed and what appropriate changes or initiatives could be enacted to enhance the future management of a similar emergency/disaster. The subject also analyses the specific actions that should be taken during the post impact phase of an emergency to facilitate its effective management.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to describe the legislation and regulations that were involved during an emergency event
- be able to describe the warning system that was utilised during an emergency event
- be able to describe the search and rescue aspects of an emergency event
- be able to describe the triage and casualty care aspects of an emergency event
- be able to describe the disaster victim identification and coronial investigation aspects of an emergency event
- be able to describe the critical incident stress management aspects related to an emergency event
- be able to describe the management of community support services during an emergency event
- be able to describe the management of recovery and restoration within a community following an emergency event
- be able to describe changes made in the emergency management arrangements within a community as a result of an emergency event
- be able to describe the effects those changes will have on the community's ability to deal with a similar emergency event if it were to occur today
