Abstract:
This subject introduces the key themes and concepts of emergency management and examines contemporary practice in the emergency management arena. Emergency management is an important consideration in any organisational management context. The complexity and dynamic nature of emergency management practice in today’s world requires emergency management professionals to be constantly aware of latest developments, innovation and practices being conducted and undertaken in the emergency management discipline.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to review analyse, consolidate and synthesise theory and best practice in advanced emergency management preparedness, response and recovery practices.
- be able to identify key challenges for emergency mangers, including the variety of perspectives and approaches of the stakeholders involved.
- be able to think critically about the perspectives of the various stakeholders and provide suggestions to be able to effectively manage these.
- should be able to generate draft policy and practice documents on an aspect of the EM process for industry, and critically reflect on the potential implementation of this
- should be able to demonstrate a broad appreciation for how emergency management fits into the role of a range of professions
