Abstract:
This subject prepares students to teach in the Key Learning Area of Society & Environment in primary schools. The subject aims to give students an understanding of the rationale for teaching, the skills to use the relevant syllabus document, an understanding of the inquiry process and knowledge and understanding of practical approaches for teaching Society and Environment in the classroom.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- know the syllabus in the Society and Environment area and be able to implement it in classroom programs
- understand the skills of using the inquiry process, acquiring information and social and civic participation and be able to implement them in classroom programs
- demonstrate skills in creating quality SOSE teaching/learning programs
- demonstrate an understanding of the impact of humans on diverse environments
- have demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of sustainability and a commitment to implementing sustainable practices
- have developed strategies for teaching SOSE including the use of ICT and managing collaborative and cooperative learning.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- SOSE and the SOSE Syllabus - The Nature of Inquiry Learning - Strategies for teaching SOSE including the use of ICT - Citizenship Education - Environmental Sustainability. ? Developing a unit of work catering for diversity of student learning platforms.
