CSU Discipline Area: Curriculum Studies (CURIC)

Abstract:

In this subject understandings of text and discourse are developed in relation to second language teachers' development and needs from a functional perspective. The subject addresses the relationship between text and context through the study of the structure of discourse and the social purposes it serves. It examines the systems of English grammar at the level of the clause, and considers traditional grammar in light of language teaching trends. The subject builds teachers' meta-language through text analysis as a fundamental aspect of second language teaching pedagogy.
