Abstract:
This subject is designed to introduce students to the development of curriculum in VET in schools subjects. The subject focuses on the relationships between the Industry Curriculum Frameworks (ICF's) and Training Packages and the delivery, assessment and reporting responsibilities of teachers working in the VET in schools curriculum area. The subject also concentrates on the use and understanding of the syllabus documents in VET in schools subjects, the development of programs from these documents and the practical issues associated with implementation of the VET in schools subjects with particular reference to students from the identified equity groups.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to understand and use the ICF syllabus documents;
- be able to analyse some of the practical implementation implications for the ICF's;
- develop a course summary and a program for their vocational education teaching specialisation;
- be able to evaluate the importance of structured workplace learning and links with industry in vocational education;
- explain the assessment and reporting requirements for vocational education students in the Higher School Certificate; and
- describe and analyse a variety of issues surrounding teaching for VET provision and the NSW secondary school curriculum.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- ICF's for Vocational Education in the NSW Higher School Certificate. - Modes of delivery for the ICF's: delivery requirements and the HSC. - An issues based analysis of the ICF's. - Developing program objectives and rationale within the instructional context of the school, its resources and its student groups. - Course planning and sequencing. - Scheduling work placement. - Developing teaching programs. - Evaluation and reflection in teaching practice. - Equitable outcomes in VET. - Diverse needs of learners and their characteristics.
