Abstract:
This subject is a role play where students will learn about the cut and thrust of day to day management. You will be responsible for developing a number of management systems such as those focused on assets, risk, finances, and capacity. You will also do a number of specific projects such as priority setting, employing staff and develop grant/business proposals. In doing so you will gain key administrative skills that employers want environmental graduates to possess. The subject contains a total estimated workload of 150 hours

Enrolment restrictions:
Not available to students who have less than 6 weeks full time (i.e. 240 hours total) volunteer or employed experience in a relevant industry.
Students who have completed either PKM201 , PKM372 , or PKM309 may not enrol in this subject.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
be able to:
- recognise current administrative and management issues facing both private and public natural resource management agencies;
- put together a focused job application;
- apply organisational logic;
- create a budget and costings for projects;
- implement appropriate outsourcing policy and procedures;
- create an asset management system;
- recognising and appropriately managing organisational risk;
- be capable of analysing financial statements;
- know the importance of ethics and quality in service delivery;
- write a business case;
- Develop a Gant chart;
- construct a grant application;
- adopt appropriate courses of action to achieve career aspirations.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
1. Apply for a job
2. Develop the overall strategic intent for the organisation
3. Develop a staff structure consistent with this strategic intent
4. Determine which services to outsource consistent with this strategic intent
5. Recruit a staff member for a job
6. Develop a suitable system for the repair and monitoring of assets
7. Develop a risk register
8. Develop a policy
9. Assess the ethical behaviour of people in comparison to policy
10. Submit a concise report to a superior
11. Develop an overall project plan
12. Develop a ghant chart in relation to this project
13. Develop a funding application
