Abstract:
This subject prepares students to develop professional approaches and policy frameworks to the design and creation of programs and products in school workshop environments. Professional requirements relating to local, State and Commonwealth policies that impact on becoming a professional, risk management, materials management, student management and pedagogy will be explored across all TAS disciplines. Student welfare and the risk management of student interactions, project-based learning and the use of toolsand materials will be emphasised.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- Be able to outline and discuss professional and policy issues that pertain to working in a TAS Faculty.
- Be able to discuss the implications of what it means to be a professional and their own personal development.
- Be able to create and use a professional portfolio to demonstrate professional growth.
- Be able to apply an ICT-based resource for teaching.
- Be able to apply ICT's for managing aspects such as asset purchase and audit, student tracking, reports, online links to parents, etc in a TAS Faculty.
- Be aware of the way in which resources are ordered, managed and audited in TAS Faculties.
- Be conversant with risk management in school workshops and environments.
- Be able to describe basic strategies for managing students in a range of technology class workshops and environments.
- Be able to identify, manage and use appropriate resources to create projects for TAS curriculum requirements.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- The nature and scope of TAS Faculties in secondary schools
- The TAS teacher as a professional and the nature of professionalism
- The professional portfolio and documenting professional growth and resources
- The importance and use of ICT's in teaching and managing in a TAS Facuty
- Managing, ordering and auditing materials in TAS Faculties
- Policies that relate to the profession, managing schools, managing teaching environments, pedagogy and student welfare as they relate to TAS Faculties
- Managing students across a range of TAS teaching environments
- Risk management in teaching environments and beyond
