Abstract:

This is an on-site (school-based) practicum in the student's chosen area of specialisation. It provides opportunities for the student to demonstrate self-sufficiency and independence as a beginning teacher. The expectation is that the student will teach full-time for the duration of this practicum. Teaching in ways that promote social justice for diverse groups is an essential part of this subject. Students will be placed with a teacher in a secondary school and devote the entire time to working with specific classes in the Year 7-11 range.

Enrolment restrictions:

Entry into the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) / Bachelor of Social Science Psychology); the Bachelor of Human Movement / Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) and the Bachelor of Education (PDHPE) courses or as determined by the course coordinator.

Objectives:

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

- demonstrate mastery of the performance skills of planning, teaching, managing and evaluating;
- designate and fulfil personal objectives based upon a self-analysis of the teaching session in EPT309;
- adjust personal and pupil expectations on the basis of reflection, consultation and personal goal setting;
- assume, through demonstration of self-sufficiency and independence, the role of beginning teacher.

Syllabus:

The subject will cover the following topics:

An eight week teaching block with a variety of classes over the Years 7-11 of a secondary school.
