EPT429 Professional Engagement (8)

CSU Discipline Area: Professional Studies (PROFL)

Duration: One session

Abstract:

This is a capstone subject and, as such, will be undertaken in the last session of study. The subject will allow students to extend their knowledge and skills in teaching and learning through the development of an individual learning plan that focusses on the design and implementation of a school or community based project.  The student’s investigations will be supported by experienced teachers and university-based colleagues, undertaking the role of mentor to scaffold learning. Relevant theory will underpin the design, implementation and evaluation of the project.

Assumed Knowledge:

Students should have an understanding of concepts in: EMH302 or ESC407 and ESC413 or EEP419 and EEP420 or EML437 and EML436 or EML434 and EMM411 prior to enrolment.

Syllabus:

The subject will cover the following topics:

• Exploration of new pedagogies as they apply to a chosen “learning” setting in specialist area;
• Implications of changed practices for the teacher and the learner;
• Planning, implementing, assessing and evaluating learning experiences, employing a range reflective strategies in a variety of contexts; 
• Role of action research in enhancing learning and teaching and implications for practice.
