Duration: Two sessions
Abstract:
This subject requires students to select a significant issue of interest from the field of Educational Leadership and/or International Education to explore in depth. Students will have completed at least one subject in either qualitative or quantitative research methods. Students will be required to identify appropriate methods for investigation of the issue, demonstrate an understanding of the processes of educational inquiry and to submit a thesis of approximately 30,000 words. During this process the students will work under the guidance of an appointed supervisor.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to identify a significant issue in educational leadership and/or international education to investigate;
- be able to adopt appropriate procedures and research methodology to investigate the selected issue;
- be able to draw on a suitable conceptual/theoretical framework;
- be able to critique relevant literature;
- be able to accurately analyse data and present results in a meaningful manner;
- be able to prepare a logically argued thesis; and,
- be able to write an original piece of work that extends available knowledge in the chosen area.

* The purposes and types of literature reviews
* Conducting a search of the literature

- The nature of inquiry and styles of educational research: Methodology and method
* Choosing appropriate research design and methodology, data collection methods and data analysis methods
* Outline methodology to be employed
* Determine the type of data analysis to be used
- Ethical considerations and gaining ethics approval
* Understanding and applying ethical guidelines
