Duration: One session
Abstract:
This professional experience allows students to demonstrate skills, knowledge and attitude development in the inclusive education subjects covered in this specialisation. Supervision will provide affirmation of strength as well as opportunities for improvement in the students teaching contexts. The professional experience is six weeks in duration for internal students. This will be followed by an academic component. The duration of the professional experience is 20 days or equivalent for distance education students.

Entry into the Bachelor of Education (Primary), Graduate Certificate in Education (Inclusive Education) (DET), Graduate Diploma of Inclusive Education and the Master of Inclusive Education (DET sponsored students) degrees or as determined by the course coordinator.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- understand the characteristics of action research;
- identify the elements that constitute action research;
- be able to explain the rationale for using action research in inclusive educational settings;
- be able to define the steps involved in the actional research process;
- apply the steps of action research to a given case study;
- devise a case study for use;
- determine valid methods for collection of baseline data relating to the chose case study scenario;
- justify priorities made from behaviours noted;
- write short term objectives in appropriate format for inclusion in an IEP;
- discuss strategies and actions to be employed to achieve the IEP objectives set;
- discuss how to collect evidence regarding student progress towards IEP targets;
- reflect on results to date and propose an outline for the following cycle with the Action Research framework;
- reflect upon the role of the following in inclusive education;
i. effective individualised assessment, teaching and
evaluation;
ii. how to meet the needs of diverse learners;
iii. how to create a positive learning environment in educational
settings, and
iv. professionalism.
- integrate knowledge gained during coursework, readings and professional experience to complete a portfolio entry for the goals of:
i. effective individualised assessment, teaching and
evaluation;
ii. how to meet the needs of diverse learners;
iii. how to create a positive learning environment in educational
settings, and
iv. professionalism; and
- articulate what it means to be an inclusive educator and consider the many and varied facets of the role.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Reflective processes involved in various settings. - Professional Issues and concepts. - Assessment both formal and instructional. - Programming and instruction. - Management for behaviour problems. - Collaboration with other stakeholders.
