Abstract:
Collaborative decision-making resides at the core of effective inclusion models. In this subject participants learn effective practice in the processes of interpersonal, cross-disciplinary, and organisational collaboration and consultation. Practical application of skills in inclusive settings is required. It is assumed that teachers are required to collaborate with a variety of professionals and families.
Capacity is built in collaboration skills, collaborative problem solving, teamwork and evaluation of the collaborative process, all of which involve working with trans-disciplinary teams in the inclusive school.

Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- articulate features of readiness for collaboration and apply these features to their educational setting
- articulate features of attitudes, skills and dispositions for collaboration and apply these features to themselves
- analyse an authentic scenario in terms of the features of the Collaborative Problem Solving model in particular, readiness, attitudes, skills and dispositions
- articulate features of collaborative problem solving
- plan a professional development program to build capacity with colleagues, that extends the Collaborative Problem Solving model to systems level
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Organisational readiness for collaboration and teamwork
- Personal readiness and skill for collaboration and teamwork
- Attitudes, skills and dispositions in relation to collaboration
- Collaborative Problem Solving model including the design and analysis of a collaborative meeting
- Design elements of a professional development workshop using the Collaborative Problem Solving model
