Abstract:
This subject provides an opportunity for students to become acquainted with the issues concerning and strategies enabling the inclusion of individuals with disabilities in school, work and community settings.

Entry into the Master of Eduction degree programs or as determined by the course coordinator.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be familiar with past and current issues influencing the inclusion of individuals with disabilities;
- introduce strategies and adaptations that can be implemented within school, work and community settings that promote the inclusive environments for individuals with disabilities;
- develop processes which enable the creation of novel solutions to novel circumstances;
- apply problem solving processes to develop appropriate strategies and adaptation for specific settings;
- use action research as a base for reflective practice in planning, implementing and evaluating inclusive practices.
Syllabus:
The subject will cover the following topics:
- Access and use literature on inclusive studies to examine social, moral, cultural, legal, educational and political influences on the development of inclusive practices. - Examine the research-based literature to evaluate the efficacy of various strategies and approaches in promoting inclusive practices. - Learning about and applying problem-solving processes that facilitate inclusive practices in collaborative contexts. - Learning about action research and applying its principles to an actual case of inclusion.
